Ahadith; sayings of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم)

A Believer is a Treasure of Love

  • A perfect Believer is one from whom people feel safe and secure regarding their lives and wealth.

  • Mercy is only withheld from a truly wretched person.

  • It is unlawful to take someone else's property unless they are willingly giving it to you.

  • Be wary of the curse of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah.

  • Strength is not about knocking others out; true strength is having control over yourself when you are angry.

  • Those who plunder and loot are not part of us.

  • Those who show no mercy will not receive mercy.

Islam begins with worshipping Allah and ends with good character and conduct. Good conduct has three key aspects, and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said that whoever possesses these three qualities, he is guaranteed entry into Jannat al-Firdaws (the highest level of Paradise). He did not guarantee this for those who only perform prayers, fast, or undertake Hajj. The three qualities are:

  1. Reconciliation: If someone breaks ties with you, you make the effort to reconcile.

  2. Generosity: If someone takes your rights, you respond by giving them their rights.

  3. Forgiveness: If someone is cruel or unjust to you, you forgive them.

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “The most beloved deeds to Allah are making a believer happy, relieving his grief, repaying his debt, or satisfying his hunger.” (Sunan al-Bayhaqi)

Allah will continue to help His servant as long as the servant helps his brother. (Sahih Muslim)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “Whoever forsakes a Muslim when his rights are violated or his honour is belittled, Allah will forsake him at a time when he would want Allah’s help. And whoever supports a Muslim at such a time, Allah will support him when he seeks help.” (Sunan Abi Dawud)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) also said: “Seek help through your weak ones, for you are only given sustenance and support because of the weak among you.” (Sunan Abi Dawud)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “Whoever wakes up secure in his property, healthy in his body, and with enough food for the day is as if he has been given the whole world.” (Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “He who does not thank people, does not thank Allah.” (Hadith-Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “If someone thanks their benefactor by saying Jazakallahu Khair (May Allah reward you with goodness), they have praised and thanked them properly.” (Hadith-Tirmidhi)

Abu Barzah Al-Aslami reported that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “A person’s feet will not move on the Day of Judgement until they are asked about five things: their life and how they spent it, their knowledge and how they used it, their wealth and how they earned and spent it, and their body and how they wore it out.” (Tirmidhi – Hasan)

So be prepared and remember this Hadith: Anas bin Malik reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “Paradise is surrounded by hardships, and Hell is surrounded by desires.” (Muslim)

‘Abdullah (RA) narrated: He visited the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) during his illness and noted his high fever. When he asked if the fever meant he would receive double reward, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) replied: “Yes, for no Muslim is afflicted with harm but that Allah will remove their sins as leaves fall from a tree.” (Bukhari, Book 7, Volume 70, Hadith 550)

Shaytaan Spends the Night in Your Nose

Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “When any of you wakes up, rinse your nose three times, for Shaytaan spends the night in your nostrils.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

Abu Hurayrah (RA) also reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “When you go to sleep, Shaytaan ties three knots at the back of your head, blowing into each one: ‘You have a long night, so sleep on.’ If you wake up and remember Allah, one knot loosens. If you perform wudhu (ablution), another knot loosens, and if you pray, the third knot loosens. Then you wake up lively and good-natured. Otherwise, you rise ill-natured and lazy.” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

Don’t Let Shaytaan Eat With You

Umaiyyah bin Makshi (RA) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) was sitting with a man who did not mention the Name of Allah while eating. When only a morsel of food was left, the man said, “Bismillah awwalahu wa akhirahu” (In the Name of Allah, at the beginning and end). The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) smiled and said, “Shaytaan had been eating with him, but when he mentioned the Name of Allah, Shaytaan vomited everything he had eaten.” (Abu Dawud & Al-Nasa’i)

Ma’qal ibn Yasser (RA) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “Whoever recites the last three verses of Surah Al-Hashr in the morning after saying: ‘A’oodhu Billahi as-Samee’i al-‘Aleemi min ash-Shaytaan ir-rajeem’ (I seek refuge with Allah, the All-Hearing, All-Knowing, from the accursed Shaytaan) three times, Allah will appoint seventy thousand angels to seek mercy for him until the evening. If he dies that day, he will be considered a martyr. If he recites these verses in the evening, the same applies until morning.” (At-Tirmidhi, Darmi)

Abu Huraira (RA) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “Allah has prepared for My righteous servants things that no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard, nor has any human heart ever thought of.” (Bukhari)

A man came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) and asked: “O Messenger of Allah, tell me something I can do to gain Allah’s love and people’s love.” The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) replied: “Do not love this world, and Allah will love you; do not long for what others have, and people will love you.” (Ibn Majah)
